An audit is a review/examination of an organization's or individual's accounts and financial information to ensure
information is being reported correctly, according to the tax laws, and to verify the amount of tax reported is accurate.
An audit does not always suggest that an error has been made. Returns are selected using a variety of methods, including:
• Random selection and computer screening - sometimes returns are selected based solely on a statistical formula.
• Document matching - when payer records, such as Forms W-2 or Form 1099, don't match the information reported.
• Related examinations - returns may be selected for audit when they involve issues or transactions with other taxpayers, such as business partners or investors whose returns were selected for audit.
GPL's audit department is managed by an Enrolled Agent, who has over 15 years of experience. We can advise, represent, and get you the best results in Federal income tax audits, state audits, examinations, Sales Tax and B&O Tax matters, Employment audits, and we will respond for you on any state notice.
An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections and appeals. Enrolled Agents' expertise in the continually changing field of taxation enables them to effectively represent taxpayers audited by the IRS. In addition to the stringent testing and application process, the IRS requires Enrolled agents to complete 72 hours of continuing education to keep them abreast of any and all tax law changes.
Only Enrolled Agents are required to demonstrate to the IRS their competence in matters of taxation before they may represent a taxpayer before the IRS. Unlike attorneys and CPAs, who may or may not choose to specialize in taxes, all Enrolled Agents specialize in taxation. Enrolled Agents are the only taxpayer representatives who receive their right to practice from the U.S. government and can represent taxpayers regardless of their state of residence. CPAs and attorneys are restricted to representing only clients that reside in the state in which they are licensed.
The convenience of having a document notarized is now available at GPL Tax & Accounting. Signature Acknowledgments, Certification
of Documents and Affidavits/Jurats are the services available. Our service also include obtaining TIN (Tax ID Number) and W7 forms for
people who want to claim their dependents or are not eligible for SSN (Social Security Number).
A notary public witnesses the signing of the documents and asks each party for a sworn oath of authenticity, and is a person legally authorized by a state to administer oaths, take acknowledgments & certify documents.
Notaries help prevent fraud and are essential to preventing identity theft by ensuring that the person signing a document to be notarized is who he or she is claiming to be. Because identities are critical, a notary public may also spend some time verifying the names of the parties involved in the signing.
You must provide a valid picture ID (State issued ID card, Driver's License, Military ID card or passport) for all services.
Please note that GPL Tax & Accounting is not a legal or immigration consultant. We cannot help you with the preparation, drafting, or selection of your legal documents. We cannot give you advice in relation to any of these documents. For any of these services, you should consult an attorney.
